Swimming pools can be divided into natural swimming pools and artificial swimming pools. For official competitions, the length is 50m, the width is 25m, there are 8 to 9 lanes, each 2.5m wide, separated by water lines, and the water depth is more than 1.8m. If the swimming pool is used for comprehensive sports such as swimming, diving, and water polo, the water depth is about 1.3 to 1.5m; the depth of a pool with a 10m diving platform is 5m, and the pool wall must be 0.3m above the water surface.

Swimming pools generally use wide-beam floodlights installed on both sides of the swimming pool for lighting, so that there is little reflected light entering the athlete’s line of sight. At the same time, attention should be paid to the installation height of the lamps and anti-glare measures to ensure that the reflected light does not enter the audience’s line of sight.
Indoor swimming pools generally use direct lighting. For practice swimming pools without spectator seats, it is relatively simple to use top light layout, but the maintenance problem must be solved. For competition swimming pools with spectator seats, if there are spectator seats on one side, an asymmetrical layout is used to project light to the opposite side of the spectator seats; if there are spectator seats on both sides, it is better to use a horizontal lighting method.
For outdoor swimming pools, there are generally two lighting methods:
(1) Center hanging type, the lights are hung directly above the swimming pool, which is more economical, but difficult to replace and repair, and has poor safety.
(2) Middle column type, the center column lighting is on the spectator seats and the swimming water barrier surface, which is close to the swimming pool, saving lights and electricity, but the audience’s sight is easily blocked and the vertical illumination is low.
(3) Tower type, a lighthouse lighting is built behind the spectator seats, which can achieve better lighting effects, but the investment is large.
Regardless of the lighting method used, we must strictly control the light curtain light projection on the water surface.
